Join the Seaport Foundation on the water.

Come row with us! The Alexandria Seaport Foundation hosts a community gig rowing program. We are an informal and fun community, and all are welcome to join in. We meet at the McIlhenny Seaport Center on Saturday mornings at 9:00 am during the rowing season, roughly April through November. During high summer, we also frequently go out on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 pm.

The Seaport Foundation’s gig rowing group uses a 21 ft., four-oared rowing gig that was built by volunteers in 1993. The group provides informal instruction for both rowers and coxes as needed.

For the competitively inclined, we also compete in local races, including the Wye Island Regatta and the SurfAid Paddle for Humanity.

During the winter, rowers gather for a potluck dinner and movie night (with a nautical theme) as we plan necessary boat/equipment maintenance and repair. Gig rowers complete the maintenance and repair at the Seaport Center in the off-season.
